My Inspiration

In my search for learning about photography, I’ve discovered a bunch of YouTubers that I really enjoy and that I find informative. I figured I’d share these people with others and maybe you’ll like them too! Here they are, in no particular order.

Peter Mckinnon

Peter does photography and videography, and the quality of his videos is phenomenal. He’s engaging, fun to watch, and I’ve picked up some tips from him along the way, though I watch him more for inspiration than if I have specific questions or techniques I’m interested in.

Beyond photography

This channel is a more recent discovery of mine. He’s quirky and a little odd, but he’s good at explaining how you can get results with basic equipment, which is what I have for now. So I’ve gone back to his videos when I have specific techniques I want to learn.

I first started following Brandon on Instagram, since he seems to be active more there than on YouTube. I have watched some of his videos, but he’s a go-to more for inspiration than learning. I love his style

Chris hau

I discovered Chris through Peter McKinnon. He’s also both a photographer and videographer. He does tutorials as well, but he also tends to do some videos on the business side of photography as well which I find interesting (even though I’m just doing it for a hobby).

fstoppers.jpg

Fstoppers

“Fstoppers is a community of photographers, videographers, and other creative professionals focused on sharing reviews, photo tricks and tips, tutorials, and news.” I love watching these guys especially for their “critique the community” episodes where people can submit photos for a particular genre, then they choose about 20 or so to critique. Two of the submissions get free tutorials from their site. You can learn a lot by seeing people critique photos.

Irene’s a natural light photographer whose style I really like. She often does behind-the-scenes videos of her photoshoots, which I find really fascinating to watch. I get to learn a bit about the whole photoshoot process aside from all the technical aspects of photography.

jessica kobeissi

I first discovered Jessica from her “3 photographers shoot the same model” videos where they each get a set amount of time to shoot the same model, often with unique challenges each time. It’s really interesting to see the different types of ideas people come up with. I’ve also made use of some of her videos with editing tips.

piximperfect

I absolutely LOVE the photoshop tutorials from this channel. The way he explains things makes it really easy to not just follow along, but to understand the “why” behind each of the steps you need to do.

Sorelle is known for her “advanced selfies”, which is how I first came across her videos. But she also ventures out into some other topics. She has a fun personality that makes her videos particularly interesting to watch. I go to her videos more for inspiration and the creative side of photography than the technical aspects. Also - I want to be able to take such awesome photos of myself like she does!

Tony & chelsea northrup

This couple is a powerhouse of information. They pride themselves on providing their unbiased opinions on product tests, which I really appreciate. They have tons of tutorials on all things photography, and they’re just overall fun to watch. They also do a segment where they critique photo submissions, but I find them less useful in that regard than FStoppers (but still interesting). Everything else though is great.
